INTRODUCTION

The Career Service Office (CSO) at the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST) essentially functions for the constructive professional growth of students and alumni. In addition, it serves as a fundamental entity for the guidance of students and alumni, by bridging the gap between academic learning and employment market trends. CSO plays an important role in assisting students by focusing on employer engagement and on-going professional development. CSO plays a crucial role in empowering students for successful transitions into professional life by connecting them with the corporate sector. It builds relationships with companies, recognizes students’ competencies, and conducts workshops on employability skills. The organization emphasizes personal branding and equal access to internships and job opportunities. Additionally, it raises awareness of career options and guides students in identifying their objectives, aiming to enhance job readiness and entrepreneurial skills among graduates at CUST.

GOALS

(a) Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and certifications that equip students and alumni with essential employability and soft skills.

(b) Establish and expand collaborations with leading industry partners to facilitate internships, mentorships, and employment opportunities.

(c) Create structured platforms to actively involve alumni in career development, mentoring, and networking opportunities for current students.

(d) Offer individualized career counselling, resume building, job search assistance, and interview preparation to ensure holistic support.

(e) Promote and manage co-op programs, industry-sponsored projects, and research collaborations to give students hands-on experience.

(f) Develop mechanisms to monitor career outcomes and use data-driven insights to continuously improve career services.

(g) Encourage continuous self-improvement, ethics, leadership, and innovation among students through seminars, competitions, and recognition programs.

FUNCTIONS

(a) Facilitates students with one-to-one sessions to assess their strengths, interests, and potential career paths.

(b) Career interest assessments are conducted using psychometric tests and self-assessment tools to guide students towards suitable career fields.

(c) CSO develops a Student Career Life Cycle to provide career development support and guidance to students. This approach is tailored to meet the unique needs of students at different stages of their academic program.

(d) Responsible for providing valuable data on job market demands, emerging skills, and hiring trends to align career choices with industry needs.

(e) The team assists students in reviewing resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles to enhance job application success.

(f) Arranges mock interview sessions with structured feedback to evaluate the readiness of CUST candidates for real-market entry.

ALUMNI COORDINATION

The CSO plays a pivotal role in fostering and maintaining strong relationships with the University’s alumni community. As part of its core responsibilities, the Office actively engages with alumni to establish meaningful liaison, enabling the University to benefit from their valuable feedback. This feedback is systematically utilized to enhance academic programs and improve their effective implementation in alignment with evolving industry and professional standards. In addition, the CSO maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date database of recent graduates to support their transition into the professional world. The Office facilitates connections between fresh alumni and relevant industry stakeholders, thereby creating opportunities for career development, mentorship, and professional placement. Recognizing the alumni as an integral part of the University’s legacy, the CSO takes pride in a vibrant network of over 15,000 graduates who are contributing across diverse sectors globally. This distinguished community reflects the institution’s enduring commitment to excellence, innovation, and leadership. The CSO remains dedicated to strengthening alumni engagement by promoting continuous interaction with the alma mater, facilitating networking platforms, and supporting lifelong professional growth.
